Perfect Age: When You Know, You Know

Perfect Age: When You Know, You Know

What’s thirty seven years between friends? Nothing, right?

What about thirty-seven years between lovers? In this day and age most would call it an achievement. Truly something to be proud of. But for these two, thirty-seven years of commitment signified that it was time to make this thing official.

After 37 years of bliss they felt it was high time to get married!

Sharon & Alan contacted us about sound-tracking their Kingscliff wedding in the usual way – via email. What wasn’t ‘usual’, was the energy and positivity that literally radiated from their enquiry. We were several replies deep before anything about ‘age’ was mentioned (it’s not something that ever really comes up), and we honestly nearly fell off our chairs.

Only ‘young people’ have good taste in music, right?

It wasn’t just the vivaciousness of Sharon’s prose, but also the wedding song choices that were beginning to materialise. Let’s just say these two evergreen legends were definitely going to do this their way.

But before we had the honour of performing a reworked version of Pachelbel’s classic wedding standard Canon in D, followed by the Foo FightersEverlong and Edward Sharpe’s Home (cracking ceremony set-list, no?) live at their wedding ceremony… we had the absolute pleasure of meeting these two evergreen lovebirds at our favourite Casuarina meeting place, Black Oak.

Finding out about the ‘real’ stuff is one of the true blessings of this wedding singer gig. And though we won’t go sharing Sharon & Alan’s truly beautiful personal story on this public forum, suffice to say that contrary to many likely opinions – that after all this time together, ‘what’s the point of getting married now!?’ – thirty-seven years of highs, lows, travel and adventures adds up to the kind of intimate knowledge and deep personal connection that most brides- and grooms-to-be can only imagine.

These two were adamant about doing the wedding day thing their way.

Having said all that, we’re here for the tunes, right? If there’s one take-away here for other B+G’s it’s that you can absolutely mix tradition with today. Whether it seems wedding-y or not, please do us (and more importantly, yourselves) a favour, and pick the wedding soundtrack that suits you.

Anyway, without further ado, let’s see what kind of tunes these two reckless kids got down to, huh?
